Scenery question...
Posted by silentman on Saturday, January 7, 2012 7:30 PM

Is it  possible to achieve the same kind of results watering down regular drywall mud instead of gypsolite for mountains and terrains? Just wondering because I have a large bucket of drywall mud leftover from a home project. Thanks for your thoughts.

It's been my experience that drywall mud doesn't take well to thinning. I may get a little extra coverage but not much more.

I never thought about using the drywall mud for mountains but I also have a bucket sitting in the garage. Might have to do some experimenting.

I have used it before. Need to use thin coats or it will crack when drying. Best use is top coat on stacked Styrofoam.

gypsolite is the best I have alot of drywall mud around but it cracks and has no texture to it. I found a place here in Denver that sells it and the cost is very reasonable.
