Need Ives Standard Gauge Info
Posted by nwo4rf on Friday, January 6, 2012 11:15 AM

I have just acquired a Ives set consisting of a 3243 4-4-4 NYC locomotive in what appears to be Kelly green with gold rubber stamping. It has matching cars 184, 185, and 186 all Kelly green with gold rubber stamping. I bought it from the original owners family. They told me that their dad got this train set in 1925 from Sears. The set came with a circle of track with 2 switches and extra straight sections. From looking at Greenburg's book, The locomotive and cars match the details for 1925 production, except for the color. The locomotive has cast iron drivers but die-cast front and back trailing wheels. Does this sound right for an uncataloged Sears set in 1925?
