bigbearmt, Welcome to the forum.

First we would need a bit more info on the loco. Can you post some pics or give more details about it?

Four of the eight wheels are powered on that locomotive. First, oil all the axle bearings, and see if that gets things moving again. If not, the loco needs to be disassembled and the motor and gears cleaned and serviced.

Ok so I have tore it down and have a question I believe on the armature that has the gear on each end is each gear supposed to be loose and spin Greeley or is it supposed to be permently fixes to armature.    Thankyou

The gears should be tight on the armature shaft. If they are loose, your engine will never run. If the gears are loose, you either replace the armature, or fix it. To fix the loose gears, reinstall the armature with the gears in their proper place, meshing with the gears in the truck. Mark the position of the gears on the armature shaft very carefully, then remove the armature. Measure from the end of the armature to each gear precisely, and write this figure down. Remove the gears if you can, or slide them in towards the armature windings. Clean the shaft and gears with alcohol (I use naptha, it is a better solvent than alcohol). Apply Loctite 603 retaining compound to the shaft where the gears will be, and move or replace the gears into proper position according to your previous measurements. Twist the gears to get the compound into the entire gear hole. Make sure gears are in their proper place, and wipe off any excess compound. You have plenty of time to get that right. Let it set overnight, and you're ready to go.

You may find Loctite 603 in automotive parts supply houses, or order online.

*Note: Do NOT be tempted to use an instant glue for this application. First, you will NEVER get the gear in place before the glue sets. Guaranteed. Secondly, the Loctite product is designed for rotating loads and stresses, and is an industrial product used on manufacturing assembly lines.
