RMT Beep Question?????
Posted by KRM on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 12:40 PM

How well do the RMT Beeps work on 027 cruve and switches?? Huh?

RMT sells them as "Compatible with most LIONEL, K-line, MTH, Atlas, Williams/Bachmann and Weaver 3-rail electric trains, this baby-sized GEEP Diesel is 9.5 inches long and perfect for use on all O and O-27 3-Rail model train layouts."

But I would like to hear from someone running one on 027 curves and switches before I pop for one.

Thanks.

Kev.

I've run one of the BEEP locomotives on an O27 layout, it had no problems.  One issue I've seen when them is the pickups have a very low clearance, and it would cause a problem on certain RCS tracks, it would snag the magnet.

I have a PRR BEEP, and it runs quite well on my 0-27 loop. It doesn't get stuck on the switches like some cheaper Marx trains do.

The only issue I have seen, at least with mine, is that the coupler return springs are rather stiff; sometimes on curves it will derail when the couplers don't swing far enough, though this is usually because of a very light car attached directly behind it. A heavier car, like a postwar car, generally has no problems.

Other than that, these are quite interesting little engines.

I forgot about the derailing, I noticed that too.  As you say, the cure is a heavier car.

I just bought my first one. Have not run it on 027. The only other problem often talked about is they will stall on switches. So far my has run through GarGraves and only stalled once. The newest ones have plugs on both ends so if you run two, plugged together they will not stall.
