I've got one of these that I'm trying to get back into shape.  Does anyone know where I can get a rear coupler for it?  I just fashioned one from copper strapping which works, but really prefer the actual part.  

Also, does anyone know a good website or video to show repair work on these engines?  This one lights up and depending on the e switch position, will make a little growl-type noise, but doesn't want to move.

You may get more response in the Classic Toy Trains forum, since this forum is mostly 2-rail trains.

I get a lot of my Lionel parts from The Train Tender. They may have the part you need.

Lionel used 3-position E units. Forward, nuetral, and reverse. It may be that it's simply shifted to nuetral when it doesn't move and just growls, and that's normal from what I know.

  The drawbar you need is part # 1654-2 and The Train Tender, as posted above has it.

  To get your loco working again, first clean any old oil and grease from the wheel bearings and gears, then lightly lubricate with hobby oil and grease. Disassemble the motor, and clean everything. Reassemble and lightly oil the armature bearings. Make sure the brushes are not too worn and not making contact with the commutator. They may need to be replaced.

  Now check the e-unit. Does it cycle properly? Look at the contacts and the drum. Are they worn or dirty? A rebuild of the e-unit may be needed.

  This basic maintenance is the first step in getting your loco back in working order. Keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks, guys, for the info.  I didn't even think of Classic Toy Trains, will have to go over there.  Have a feeling this will be an elongated process.  The engine resides at my parent's place in Indiana and I'm taking it back to North Carolina, with me, so I can do some work on it, which will basically be when I can. lol  But I will keep you posted.

Is that scout engine older than the 235 scout engine? Or is it similar? The 235 and a couple other scout engines have everything inside of one housing and are very difficult to work on.
