Lionel 408E Apple Green!! Need Help!!
Posted by lionel2 on Friday, December 23, 2011 2:21 PM

Hello,  I have a 408E in Apple Green that only runs in one direction.  Anyone know how to make it work in both directions.  Or know how to wire these up the right way for directional lighting??  Thanks.

Anyone know if the lights at each end are supposed to be a clear bulb on top and 2 green bulbs at one end and 2 red bulbs on the other end on the bottoms??   Thanks.

According to the parts callout diagram here, you are correct in the bulb placement.

Thanks, Just wanted to make sure the bulbs were in the right place.  Because I have seen 408E's with the bulbs in an other arrangement.  With one green and one red on the bottom on each end and clear on top on both ends.  Any idea on how to wire the 408E up for directional lighting??  Thanks.

lionel2,

For directional lighting, all you need to do is connect the wire for the bulb(s) to one of the brushes.  Connecting to one brush will light the bulb in one direction, while alternatively connecting to the other brush will light the bulb in the other direction.  The bulbs are already grounded to the chasis, so that is all that is required.

There are 4 nuts inside the chassie on top of the frame inside.  Which one do I attach the bulbs to?  I will look and find where the brushes are connected to.  And try to attach them to the nuts that each brush goes to.
