263E Blue Comet

Howdy all, Jerry Andrews here. I've been gone for awhile, long story but it's nice to back. I just bought a Lionel 263E Blue Comet, 5 car, Engine, tender, Observation, etc. It's missing some paint, a little chipped, etc. Should I refinish this train? I have the means to have it sprayed flawlessly in the correct color but...should it be done? Thanks much, Jerry Andrews

Unless the current finish is a complete basket case with chipping and rust I would say leave it as is. Lionel Prewar 263E Blue Comets are a Lionel icon but would not be considered super rare.

It's your train, do with it what you will.  Those are not "rare" or "extremely valuable", so if the chips bother you, refinish it.
