Just for your information there is an American Railroad gun on display at the Washington Naval Yard in Washington D.C. It used a 14" Naval cannon and was designed for coast artillery. The German Gun Leopold was recently moved from Aberdeen Proving grounds to Ft Lee VA since the Ordnance School relocated there and the museum is part of the school.
As stated above, i am modeling "leopold" this particular cannon was assembled from 2guns captured at the end of WWII. the 2nd was named "robert" . leopold resided at apg md up until this past summer when it moved to virginia. it is a german, K5 series railroad cannon. a quick google search for "anzio annie" will link you to wikepedia for a good read. i would consider my model between "Railking" and "Premier" size. its not a 100% perfect scale model as i am taking a few liberties so that it will actually manuever across my layout(something the real one couldnt do) i will have to upload my pics so far to my websots album so i can post a few pics for you. it is coming along nicely so far. i think i am going to change my trucks out for a different style but more on that after the pictures are up. thanks for the interest!
The two-track gun was the 80 centimeter, "Dora" or "Schwerer Gustav". It could penetrate 30 meters of solid earth, 7 meters of concrete, or 1 meter of steel armor. It saw its only action at Sevastopol, where it fired a total of 48 shells over 5 days. It disappeared in 1944.
The "Leopold" was a 28 centimeter gun used at Anzio. The allies called it "Anzio Annie". It was repaired with parts from a companion gun and taken to Aberdeen Proving Ground.

If you tackle this project, there are lots of folks out here that would enjoy progress pictures.
Sounds like a very interesting project. In strict O scale (1/48?), it would be a very impressive piece.
well aware of the differences, ive worked on both. i figured posting about the leopold (anzio annie) in a train forum would make sense that i was referring to the "railroad gun" so has anyone mde one for their layout before or will i be the first to attempt it? i have plenty of details on the full size gun being lucky enough to put my own hands on it so im excited to tackle this build
I think you mean "railroad gun". A rail gun is something entirely different.
Do you have German Railroad Guns in action? If not, I recommend it: http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?sts=t&tn=german+railroad+guns&x=71&y=10
has anyone on here built their own rail gun? i know they are not available and i am going to be scratch building one for my layout. i have it planned out but i am curious if anyone else has already undertook this task.
