The "power station" is simply a 135W Powerhouse with a controller that makes it look like a standard transformer.

My vote here would be for a Lionel KW, great transformer and gives you the flexibility of variable voltage and two outputs.  I use one on a TMCC layout, works fine.  It'll have plenty of power for a couple of passenger trains.

FWIW, I've taken to converting all my passenger cars to LED lighting, it provides much more even lighting, and consumes basically no power.

Lionel has discontinued a lot of the TMCC equipment and replaced it with their Legacy Command System that is backwards compatiable with TMCC equipped locomotives.

The power house is a 180 watt brick transformer that can be integrated with TMCC controllers

The PH-1 power house supply I believe is the name for the 135 watt brick transformer that can be integrated with TMCC controllers.

I use four of the Lionel 135 watt bricks to power my layout that is wired for TMCC and MTH DCS command control.

Not sure what the Lionel Power Station is, could be the name for the controller that the brick transformers plugged into since the bricks have no way of controlling the power input to the layout.

TMCC Question for the Christmas Tree
Posted by northernsubpcrr on Monday, December 5, 2011 1:38 AM

Hello,

My wife has a TMCC system and it s soul purpose is for under the Christmas tree.  We picked up the set a few years ago in Timonium.  Last Christmas we ran it under the tree just fine with a 80 watt transformer.  She has a Pennsy Steam engine (sorry cant remember which one) with all the goodies on it.  The 80 watt power worked great powering the TMCC under the tree except for when she added her MTH passenger cars with lights to the train.  Then there was too much draw and it would shut down.  We got rid of the 80watt power pack and are looking for a new source of power.

I have been searching e-bay and see a lot of options.  And its confusing.  First what is a Lionel Power Station?   What is a PH-1 Power House Supply?  What is a Power House 180?  Can I use any of these to power the TMCC?

The tree goes up Tuesday.  Would really like to get something ordered.

Thanks,

     Jason
