It is just not my week for smoke units! I was wanting to have all of this stuff working before the grandkids come over for Christmas.
Okay, I have a UP caboose with smoke..............well maybe not it is a. 6-19706
Yeah, SJ I got it on Flea-Bay but it worked when I got it.
Anyway the thing does not smoke and power is going to the smoke unit. Looking at Lionel's parts page. guess what....... ha Ha ha............... Unavailable.......... Oh well. see item # 19

Question is what can I do to make this thing smoke again?? it is a seuth unit and only listed for 12 volt so I bet it is smoked..pardon the pun.
Thanks in advance

Light a cigerette up and stick it in the smoke stack?
Just kidding what you might do is call jeff and see if he has any options as he might be able to figure a way to rig something up so it will work if not "have a cigar"
Life's hard, even harder if your stupid John Wayne

It is good to see your doing better RT,
Maybe your on to something, but I gave up smoking, almost 30 years ago.
Good call, I will ask Jeff, Wish I knew Friday before I placed the last order.
Just thought someone else had a better idea than me taking up the bad habits of the past. Besides the smoke may not smell like wood. Tks, Kev.

I quit 3 packs a day 8 years ago amen
Kevin,
The same thing happens to me.
Everything works fine, until showtime!

Seuthe makes two different size units for HO and Large Scale trains. Depending on the size of the Lionel unit, one of the two sizes should fit. Any hobby shop that sells/services LGB trains should have one to sell. Take the old one out to match the size, then get one with the proper voltage range, as they vary.
Do not operate dry, or you will "smoke" them.
Larry
The normal issue with these is the heating element burns out due to too much voltage. You can open it up and replace the element, and you might consider replacing the wicking as well while you're in there.
For TMCC use, I put a series diode for this kind of smoke unit to keep it from seeing excessive voltage.
Thanks guys!
One other thing I noted is that is no on-off switch on this car. Think I should add one?
It's always nice to have an on-off switch for the smoke units. The Seuthe smoke units you can use are the #6 at 10-14 volts, and the #7 at 11-16 volts.
Gunrunnerjohn,
I think you are referring to the post-war type units with the replaceable elements and wicking. The Seuthe units are sealed and non-repairable as far as I know.

Yeah Larry It does not look like you can do anything with this thing.
Yks,
Kev
