Campsite- a use for those battery powered tea light candles
Posted by SantaFe158 on Monday, November 28, 2011 5:27 PM

I have been thinking about using one of those battery tea lights as a campfire for my Christmas display for awhile now.  I finally looked into doing it tonight.  Turns out the battery is 3V and I had an adjustable wall transformer that had a minimum setting of 3V... perfect.  And it flickers like a fire too.

Came out pretty well (sorry for the crappy cell phone picture, my dad has the camera with him in Mexico right now)

It looks a lot better in person and will be cool on my Movie theater display.

SantaFe158,

Great idea!   I'm doing my first ever Christmas Tree layout & I think I will copy your idea - only my candles are battery powered.

Thanks for posting. Merry Christmas.

This was actually made using one of the battery powered ones, now it's hooked up to a 3V DC transformer instead.  Either way would work.  Not sure if it'll last the whole season, but it'll look cool for a little while anyway.  The only part of the original candle I used was the LED which has the flicker feature built in.  I just hardwired it to the transformer.
