You're welcome.
Thanks, Larry, for the info. I've been looking for a source of roller pickups for modern 027 passenger cars.
Jeff,
Sounds like your working with the right person for whatever trucks you have.

I appreciate all the info. Part of the problem is that I don't really know what I need, I just know what I want. :) I just want to be able to add lights and such to various rail cars that don't already have them. I'm not familiar with the various styles of trucks or the parts involved. I just run and play with trains!
Jeff at ttender is working with me via email. I think I've also found a source of Atlas complete trucks that will work.
If you look here http://www.lionel.com/media/supplements/Supplement39/Completed/Supplement39Complete.pdf
you will find a collector for a post war style truck
610-9251-050 modern die cast w/provisions for a pick-up
610-9845-150 w/ provisions for a pick-up, plus this truck also has a coilcoupler
610-7658-050 Caboose w/ pick-up
610-9749-065 Caboose w/ pick-up plus coilcoupler
These are just a few that are available, what type of car are you putting them on.
691-8606-T6 is a modern day post war truck and it uses a modern day style pick-up
600-9234-060 Modern day pick-up
You can see pic's on lionels site.

The old post-war 487-1 metal truck with roller pickup may be to your liking, and Train Tender has them listed in his catalog. The modern reissue part number is 9307-60. If the truck is the same, it gets held in place with a circlip around a grooved stud in the truck rather than a rivet.
Kev,
Glad to be of help to you.

TrainLarry Here is the pickup assembly for modern wheelsets: http://www.ttender.com/partphotos/Collectors/9150-150-PU-assy.jpg Do NOT use the 482-3 baseplate and roller with modern wheelsets. This baseplate was designed for the older post-war trucks with separate wheels that freewheeled on the axle. The modern fast-angle wheelsets have wheels that are pressed onto a spline on the axle, and thus turn as one unit. The baseplate in question has tabs that need to be bent over the axles for assembly, and would lock up the newer wheelsets. Larry

Larry,
You are correct on the use of 482-3 for modern wheels but he said diecast and most older post wheels are that.
So he will have to decide on what he needs.
I am glad you posted the link for I could use some on my non-diecast modern trucks.
Tks,
Jeff is VERY good about returning emails and helping you find parts. I've mailed more than once describing what I want, and he comes up with the numbers.
Look at part number 482-3 baseplate and roller repro. From the Train Tender
I got one for my 2046W-50 tender from Jeff. It is metal and just connects to the axles of the truck.
Hope this helps,
Thanks for the source, though I'm having a hard time finding it on that site. I guess I'll email the guy.
Jeff
I've used the plastic add-on pickups, they work OK, but they're more fragile than the complete trucks. In normal operation it's not an issue, but don't manhandle them.
you actually have two choices here both can be obtain from Jeff at the www.ttender.com one there is a piece made ( its plastic but works great) to add the pickup to your present trucks ( makes it a lot easier than replacing trucks) I have done this many times. Also Jeff carries sprung trucks with middle pickup on them.
Life's hard, even harder if your stupid John Wayne

I've been thinking about adding lights to some rail cars that didn't come with them. But I can't seem to find any 3-rail O scale diecast trucks that also have electrical pickups. Anyone know of a good source?
