Jack,

It's single motored but the rear truck of the A unit  has a  motor assembly \ truck  is one piece and is as heavy as a boat anchor. .The original  K Line RI passenger set was a Christmas gift from my wife at a time when I was into a G gauge indoor layout. That  classic Rock island livery was what got me hooked on O gauge. Of course I went back to the LHS immediately and gifted myself with the expansion pack of additional passenger cars ! The RI and Midwest fallen flag roads in particular are favorites as I grew up there. What I wouldn't have given for a ride on any of The Rockets or The Golden State  when they were in their prime.

The Marx A/B diesels use a slot and tab couple which fits neatly into the knuckle of the K-Line passenger cars, hence the revival of The Rock Island Rocket. Per my own preference, there is no prototypical sound, operating speeds, intricate environment or other distractions from the rushing and clacking of The Rocket along on the rails.

wallyworld........stop teasing me.  Really looks sharp with those passenger cars.  Is the Marx dual motored?

The plastic couplers have a slot for the tabs but the older metal ones do not. Nice video let the rocket...rocket. toy trains are fun.

As I remember back to to 1965 the tab also fits into the slot in the old fork couplers.

That had not occurred to me which is interesting and will keep that information for future reference. I prefer to mix and match so thats a handy bit of information. At one point (since I collect and operate several manufacturers from 1930 into the mid-50's ) . I settled on the slot and tab system. The latch couplers on the prewar Lionel were retrofitted with tabs.In this case my previous layout had contemporary stuff, so with this, I can mix and match them as well with the tab. A string of the smaller Industrial Rail cars fit nicely with the Marx 333 without looking goofy. . That engine is another "heavy weight" and a good puller..

I always liked the Marx yellow & gray Western Pacific F units. Just never got around to picking up one of those sets.

Rodger Carp agrees with you. The WP passenger set ranked 25 in 101 Classic Toy Trains.

EIS2

I sure hope no one was standing up in those passenger cars in the Marx video a couple of posts up.

Earl

The were plastered into their seats at five times the pull  of normal gravity.

That's why they call it "The Rocket" :Seriously...It's interesting that the original K-Line FA units spin out with the full compliment of cars, and the Marx units just dig in and go..no traction tires..no magne-traction just sheer weight makes for the adhesion factor. One of my future experiments is to take as many non tin cars as I can to see what the upper limit is. They are real pullers.  I have enough for a A-B-B consist but two B units are too light and rack over so ill add some ballasting weight in the near future..

maybe because I might of been editing it when you tried try again and let me know

Interesting. The problem seems to be on my end. It won't open in Firefox 8 but it does work in Opera. Good video. It could have a bit more light though.
