K-Line Flood Light Tower wiring question
Posted by runawaytrain on Thursday, November 10, 2011 3:50 PM

Hello,

I picked this  accessory up at a yard sale. It has two lamps at the top. It's in very good shape and I would like to see if it works.  What I would like to know is how the two sets of wires (red and black) are connected to a small transformer.  Also, what kind of bulbs will work in the floodlight (it didn't have any bulbs when I bought it)?  Thank you.

The wires should be connected to the accessory terminals on the transformer. Output voltage across these would be around 16 volts AC. You can look at the Lionel site for bulbs. I think they would be about the same for the K-line. Take a look at the photos views for the two bulbs offered in the double floodlight tower below. The 6104092300 might be good if the lamp sockets are screw-in type. They should be avialable in a hobby shop or good hardware store or on-line.

You're not talking about this searchlight tower, are you?  In any case, what kind of lamp sockets does it have, bayonet, screw, or what?

It has bayonet type lamp sockets and yes, I think it is the Search Light tower and not a floodlight tower.    There are 2 black wires and two red wires coming from the search lights.  Do I tie the red and black wires together (creating 2 pairs of red and black wires)? I would imagine the 2 pairs of wires get attached to the ACC post on my transformer right?  Thankyou guys!

Connect the two red wires together as a pair.  Connect the two black wires together as a pair.  Then connect one pair to the common terminal of your transformer and the other pair to the accessory terminal.

The 14.4-volt number 53 lamp is probably a good choice and easy to find, at Radio Shack, for example.  http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103782&filterName=Type&filterValue=Bayonet+Base
