Hello,
I'm back with another gateman question. I am having trouble getting the gateman to come out. I got it to work once but when he came out the light would go out. I am using the MTH IR accessorie activator. I am not sure how to connect the wires properly. Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks,
Kevin
Can't stop working on the railroad!
not familar with the item but I would think from transformer one wire goes to the IR then a wire form the IR to the gateman and then a wire from transformer to the other post on gateman.
tried to look it up on mth but all i see is a remote ( hand held ) and a bunch of trains must be there too but it has to be burried in about 50 pages

I don't have one in front of me right now, but I can say this. I recently bought the 75th anniversary gateman, and it was wired wrong from the factory. If the one you're trying to hook up is this model or perhaps one made in the last few years, I can take a picture of what it looks like now. It was just swapping a pair of wires from one screw to another.
Anyhow, off the top of my head, one of the terminals under the roof has a metal stud that goes to the base of the unit. That one's the common. On the newer gatemen, you can see a wire coming from the lamp socket going to one of the other terminals. That terminal would be hooked to a constant voltage source. The remaining terminal should be for the solenoid that makes the man pop out. That would be hooked to a normally open contact on your IR controller (I've never seen this controller you're using so I can't be more specific). Naturally you would have to connect a constant voltage source to the other contact of that normally open contact for it to work.
Clear as mud right?
