Wow bill you are like me a early bird. As age hit me the less i sleep but that only means there is more time for me to play with the trains .Always enjoy your pictures but would love to see your whole layout in video.

Actually Bigdogjeff,  those late West Coast college games are killing me. Being a West Coast transplant in Ohio the games don't get over till 1:00 AM. I do have some layout videos over on YouTube, will try to post some here.

Ok, here's my contribution. I've set up my "Christmas Display" American Flyer Layout in our bonus room above the garage. The Royal Blue and passenger set is my Uncles so I thought I would honor him and run his train this year when the family comes over.

This year I've added the bridge and the Train tower on the right hand side. I've got control buttons located on the front of the layout for my nieces and nephews to play with so they can run the whistle, lights, and train station record player. It's always a hit during the Christmas season.

Hector,

Not to take away from the equal charm of the layout but that transformer is so cool and retro..really unique in a good way. What is it..re: make, model # etc.? Also,,is that a Flyer Tower? Thanks for posting the photos..way cool in sum total. As far as HO, I suppose I like pictures of any toy train. I know that there has been grumbling about O being posted in MR forums. All of this in one sense seems arbitrary just as much as how CTT defines what is classic as in it's masthead title. Just a thought, I don't desire instigating an endless debate that may be off the subject of photo fun.

Nothing is more fairly distributed than common sense: no one thinks he needs more of it than he already has.

It's an American Flyer 30B transformer. The 1954 catalog has a list price of $34.95. I paid about $200 for it on Ebay. Yup, that's an American Flyer Tower No. 593 original price $4.95. I also got it off of Ebay for about $35 dollars. A steal at the time. Everything on this layout except for the vehicles and the plasticville buildings is authentic 1950's ish equipment.

I don't want a debate either. I came here to see and post Classic Toy Trains.

This is the tale of Gigantor, the O scale engine that has growth hormone issues."The Monster of Tinplate". I thought this might be interesting to some who have not come across this likable mutant.. It is actually a Unique Art engine that literally dwarfs other tinplate and may have the most overgrown dimensions of O tinplate.

Here it is side by side..dwarfing the Marx 333.

Here it is for comparison side by side with G Gauge. Like HO that is half O maybe this is HG, half G. The engineer in the cab of the mallet could almost go into the cab of Gigantor.

It also came in a windup version, another side by side angle. Windup on the left. Colorful beasts none the less.

Nothing is more fairly distributed than common sense: no one thinks he needs more of it than he already has.

Great photos everyone!

Heres some from me

An MTH H10 takes a local freight

An RMT BEEP locomotive shoves some cabooses back to the yard

Everybody has a little Marxist in them...

Its always good to end on a postwar note... this was actually my first train set given to me in the early 90s...

Not trying to start anything but who is to say only O,S, And standard Gauge is classic now I know model railroad forum is basicly HO and n but its all gauges also as when I was there there was no buff that I was O. It may be different now seeing I left there about 5 years ago.

Does On30 belong in O or HO it runs on HO track? It has been covered in CTT I seem to remember.

Just some things to think about not to start a war or anything. I may not model a certain scale but I can admire all scales. and there work done to build them.

This made me think of my abortive foray decades ago into HO. I thought to myself, the following"

Are the models made by Mantua Tyco or Athearn ( remember the shake the box kits of the 1960's? ) any less classic examples of the history of toy trains? Is the early Lifelike stuff an HO an equivalent of Marx? Before all the electronic miniaturization, bells and whistles etc..I agree with you that sometimes distinctions can be arbitrary and contradictory..in the eye of the beholder, so to speak.. In an era of realism how about this as a HO classic?

Like the latch couplers like the scissors coupler, slot and tab, to me all are the history of this hobby. I think we tend to be book ended by editorial prerogatives that have nothing to with what each of us defines as classics. They are all toys to me, and why would they not be? Just an after thought..based on your post.

You're right. That is some fantastic scenery. Great Job.

Sorry about asking the previous poster to post in the HO forums. I guess I was mistaken. I'm going to post all of my HO photo's here and encourage others as well. Again, sorry that I assumed incorrectly that the Classic Toy Trains forum was meant for Large Scale trains only, but includes all train models regardless of scale.

Ok, Here are my HO contributions. I've contacted several HO posters on the MR forum and have asked them to post here instead, so hopefully we will see some of their work here soon Smile

This engine I scratch built myself from a Rail Power Products Shell and chassis. I also painted and decaled it. At the time you couldn't find an SD-70MAC in production. You can now of course and my latest aquisition is from KATO.

Now this next HO locomotive just happens to be a favorite of mine. It's an Atlas UBoat and runs perfectly. I did add the DCC strobe though and hope to weather it in the near future.

Just a reminder, it is okay if someone wants to post an HO or N scale pic here – but they need to understand that this isn't the core audience. Similarly, if there is a photo fun thread in the MR forum, three-railers could post there, but don't be surprised if there is a negative reaction.

Life is too short to get too wrapped around the axle about this.

Good morning all.  Glad to see some photos going up to take care of my train itch.  I too enjoy seeing all scales.  I only direct folks who have questions on other scales to check the other forums as they would get more exposure to their posts to those who can help with any questions.  Still, it is great to see some great scenery and pieces from all scales.  I really enjoy this hobby.

Well now I'm a bit confused. I simply suggested in what I perceived was friendly bantor from (one guy to another) that the HO forums are a few clicks away. And what do I receive in return? Admonishment by at least 3 posters including wsdimenna that suggests i could learn a thing or 2 about scenery.

I can't help but wonder if my last name was Smith instead of Gonzales if I would have been treated the same. Very sad.

Hector, there is good times for friendly bantor and all, but it is funny with email and all....I think you would be best served by sticking  to the trains and the discussions of them...I think your picture with the sombrao and all, distracts...Lets stick with the trains..

New addition to the roster.

Lionmaster Legacy Conrail SD-80 (paid $250) I picked up at a local train show this weekend.  What an awesome engine.

Great halloween this year.

Had a bunch of youngsters & oldsters over yesterday to checkout the "Trains & Treats" before starting the teardown, can't remember the last time I cooked that many hot dogs. Chef

Overview,

Halloween party,

Dinner anyone ?

There goes the neighborhood,

On to the midway,

The carousel with Chief's office in the background,

When Mars attacks,

Remember the Veterans. Past, present and future.

Hector, I see that you have Mexico City as your location. How large is the electric train hobby in a large city such as Mexico City ? Do hobby shops actually carry much of an inventory of O Gauge trains or is focused more on the HO / N versions ?
