Hello to everyone!
I need help to identifiy a model electric train engine. I think it is called a switch engine as both the front and back of the body are the same. The color is green and the builder is American Flyer MFG. Chicago Illionis. The body is metal and on top of the engine roof is a light and bell and on the other end is a pull switch and a overhead power wire pickup that is for show only also their are two hand rails on top right and left side and one on each end of the engine. The number on the side of the engine is 3107. The engine is about a pound or two with four wheels and two rollers in the center of said wheels that are I think for power pickup. How old is the model and is it of any worth?
Thank you all for your help.
Best regards
Greg
It's prewar (3-rail) American Flyer. The "overhead power wire pickup" models the miniature pantograph that was used with an overhead rail to supplement the trackside third rail, used by electric locomotives underground in Manhattan to negotiate complicated trackwork. Here's one on Ebay:

Hi Bob,
You are on the ball, identifying the engine, as well as helping us to be electrically safe and not damage our goodies.

Does anyone know a good train inventory program
I use RRTrains2000. You can download it free HERE. It's easy to use and fast to learn. You can save your inventory on your hard drive or a flash card or both.
