Stopped by Menards this morning to check out their Christmas stuff. Toy section is set-up with 4 different Lionel train sets. Did not see any of the individual O Gauge flatcars with loads.
G Gauge battery powered Polar Express $99
O Gauge Pennsy Flyer $199
O Gauge Harry Potter set $249
O Gauge Milwaukee / Menards set $299
A lot of various Christmas village buildings including a nice selection of Disney Land buildings and characters.

Disneyland you say?
Trains, trains, wonderful trains. The more you get, the more you toot!
Yep, about a half dozen buildings that would lend themselves to Disneyland's main street. Also about a dozen or so Disney characters in different poses. The looked great but as most Disney licensed products, more expensive than the average buildings.
Here's the Menard's Wisconsin Central Passenger set from 2007! Kind of fun to look back at some of their previous Lionel sets! Not a bad Lionel train set for $159.00.
One thing about trains: It doesn't matter where they’re going. What matters is deciding to get on.
My local store has leftover sets from last year. 0-8-0 steam engine set $129. Diesel engine set $189. About 10 flat cars with semi van trailers and 3 flat cars with semi tractors, $20 each. I wonder how much they will be when they close out toys after christmas? At Goodwill I got a new in box semi tractor for $3.00. Its under scale so have it listed on CL. They have Harry Potter, diesel and steam sets at regular prices. I wonder if they sold all of the yellow CNW steam passenger sets from 2 years ago?
Modeling the "Fargo Area Rapid Transit" in O scale 3 rail.
Though I don't do three-rail, I do check out the offerings each year. I was kind of surprised to see at our Menards, the Menards special set is priced $100 over the Pennsylvania set. Yet it's essentially the same train set. OK, the Menards set has one more car. That's one expensive crane car!
I have figured out what is wrong with my brain! On the left side nothing works right, and on the right side there is nothing left!
The big difference between the Menards set and the Pennsy Flyer set besides the extra car is the quantity manufactured. The Menards set may have had a 1000 sets produced to sell exclusively in their stores whereas the Pennsy Flyer has had many thousands produced and are available anywhere Lionel trains are sold.
Menards website has $30 off and free shipping for the Menards Milwaukee limited edition set.
Right after Christmas and New Year's Day are when there are big 50% off discounts on the remaining LIONEL train sets at Menards. Can you wait that long for the train sets?

The Menards limited edition set along with the Menards individual rolling stock is always gone by Christmas in Central Ohio. Actually the individual rolling stock was already sold out at the Columbus Menards when I was there last week. Plenty of the Pennsy Flyer or battery operated Polar Express sets though.
The Menards in Oshtemo-Kalamazoo, Michigan had two of the Milwaukee Steam sets, two Soo Line RS3 sets, two Hogwartz Express sets, and two Polar Express sets.
I waited until the sales just before Christmas and after Christmas to buy two of the Soo Line RS3 sets at the Menards in Portage, MI.
