It would be an excellent business decision to reduce or better yet eliminate the current backlog of preordered product. The manufacturing process certainly is way to long for a certain percentage of product for every catalog cycle.

The Lima center cab transfer engine looks interesting, but cataloging the Centipede was no surprise. A few cars with new paint and that's about it.

I received my new 1012 Catalog at the York Train Show.

Inside the front cover MTH explains that they are taking a break from NEW steam locomotives as they work throught a backlog of steam ordered from the 2011 catalog.  Also, all new locomotives will have PS3 sound and control standard. This "O Gauge" only catalog is 130 pages long.

There is most likely a lot of MTH Premier Steam Locomotives still in stock at model train stores and there is a backlog of promised models awaiting production. People have to purchase what is available. First make sure that you have wide radius curves for the long O Scale Steam Locos from the Premier line.

Except for european locomotives......no american steam.

Lot of speculation on another forum.   IMO, MTH has over extended itself with numerous business fronts. Tinplate, HO, Standard, American O Gauge, European O Gauge, and Garden Railroading G Gauge. I think they are in catch-up mode of previous catalog items.

Remember that old Wendy's commercial "Where's the beef?" I'm wondering "Where's the Steam?" Except for european locomotives......no american steam.

The MTH catalog is out on the MTH web site. The Westinghouse Schnabel flatcar is back. Always wanted one of those guys but they were 2 to 3 times above the original catalog price on the scondary market. No US steamers this catalog but a nice selection of diesels.
