Lionel Lincoln Funeral Train

I received the latest issue of Lionel's Inside Track magazine and it has pictures and a 2 page spread of the upcoming LRRC Lincoln Funeral Train offering.

The scale 4-4-0 Cleveland, Columbus & Cincinnati RR Nashville steamer will be diecast and brass. Since it is scale I am guessing it will be smaller then the plastic General's that we are use to seeing from Lionel. The one funeral car included with the loco is the United States Presidential car that was built by the U.S. Military RR. The Presidential car will include the 2 caskets plus military figures.

There will be 2 other passenger cars offered also. All 3 passenger cars are from new tooling. I was somewhat disappointed that loco will only have a forward or reverse directional switch. No mention of a smoke unit and I guess since the loco is scale which means small, no room for TMCC or Railsounds.

At $799 for just the loco and casket car, the other 2 add-on cars are at additional expense in which the price was not stated becomes a do I really need it. The set would be a nice addition but not sure if I will pop for the $800 plus $$ set.

I think it looks interesting as I really love that time period. However, I cannot afford it. I do think that for all new tooling and for the research and such to design the funeral car it isn't over priced.

This scale set will fit well with the earlier releases of the small scale trains. This would be a must have if I had the others. Since I don't have them the price which seems fair is more than what I want to spend on just the 1 set.

Locomotive, Tender, & three Passenger Cars, $1,100.  No, I'm no longer in that market, I'll spend my money on other things.

I'll go to a Train Show and buy a discounted older product that has already lost the premium of a "New Product", for that money you could buy, at a show, two Scale Hudsons from a few years ago, or two full scale G Gauge GG1s!

October 13, 14, 15 -- I'ts NEXT WEEK --  the big train show TCA York PA, that will take care of my spare cash. As always, BLUE HALL - E14, if your at York drop by.

Sounds like a "collectible - shelfware" set to me.
