TAS Railsounds with Williams Engines?
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, August 7, 2004 2:45 PM
I received a TAS catalog today. It lists conventional railsounds 4.0 for 89.95 . I wonder has anyone installed this in a Williams engine like a F7 Or E7. I have several older williams engines that have " that horn" if you know what I mean. It sounds like a goat in heat when activated. They also show the SAW board for command /control plus railsounds for 164.95 to 204.95. Let me know how the installation was accomplished. Thanks.........Tim

My local dealer the Rail Yard here in Roanoke is doing a E-7 Williams upgrade with TA's EOB board/Railsounds. If it goes like my Williams Virginian Rectifer it should be an awesome engine when done.

Thanks for the reply Scott. I have a Williams E7 AA L&N on order , Should be here next week. It sure looks nice in the picture. I am thinking of maybe putting the True Blast in one of the older units I have and upgrading the E7 with Railsounds 4.0......Tim

pigseyes,

I'm working on the SAW and RS installation in my Williams PA-1. The sounds are generic "early Alco", which should suffice. I have the same sounds in my Atlas SW8 and the start/rampup/shoutdown sounds are satisfying. I've started a journal of my upgrade adventures at http://r_harrison.tripod.com/Trains/Install.html

Tim, upgrading to TMCC is not expensive. Some OGR guys gave me the figures and the companies that offer it. I think Buckeye has done some. I plan on doing my Williams engines when I add the TMCC module to my DCS. Just a thought.

As the Chief said, I did a TAS installation in my Amtrak Genisis. My only complaint is that the engine does not have a sound port and the horn is weak. The TMCC features work like a charm and the engine can pull stumps when compared to the Lionels.

TAS is located in Canfield, Ohio near Youngstown. They used to have a real neat retail store but I think that is closed. I sure wished they would open it again.

I cannot imagine that there would be a problem with doing this type of upgrade. As Buckeye Riveter mentioned, there may be speaker mounting issues (assuming that you may not want to be cutting holes in things, but the TAS stuff is bullet-proof and easy to install. I have done four now (not on a Williams yet) and really like both the product and the support.

I was thinking that the Williams "Golden Memories" series might make excellent subjects for either a PS-2 or a TMCC conversion (I believe that they both have flywheels).
