Is anyone familiar with this engine? I find that compared to some other engines i have, (one of the cheaper Sante Fe Blue and Yellow engines, and the Wabash bluebird), this car seems to have less power. It is the only one that seems to have trouble heading up onto the tressel with more than 5 cars. Any ideas?

I've never found any of the single Pulmore GP-9 locomotives to be that strong a puller. I favor dual-motored locomotives for that reason.
I have found my pul-mor gp-9 nyc will pull a decent load with no problem now I did't have a incline when running it but it pulled 7 flats with autos on them behind it with no problem. But mine has magna-traction also so that may be the difference. have you tried long nose first. mine is 6-18563

Lionel's Geeps were nice engines but not great pullers. As RT says run long hood forward it gets a better grip that way. If you can afford a second one, they really pull a good load together. The latest Lionel GPs have traction tires added and pull a good deal better.

Thank you all. Yes, I only run it forward but I guess it's doing the best it can do.
It's unfortunate your GP-9 isn't a strong locomotive my Lionel Conventional Classic GP-7 with a pullmor Motor and magnetraction and tires on it pulled 7 2400 series passenger cars up a 5% grade no problem and it can pull 8 passenger cars with 23 freight cars on 0-60 curves. Maybe its the tires that make the difference.
I'm a little confused here as on ebay the one i saw said they were dual motor not single now to me that should have no problem pulling so I'm wondering if he doesn't have a another problem with that engine.theres two listed one states magna traction on ebay the other states dual motors hmm wonder which it is or is it both. One makes it sound like it has just one motor as it says ac motor the other says dual ac motors with magna traction.
