Need help replacing metal pivot pins

I use the Brakeman's Riveter kit, it has a special anvil to hold the truck rivet from spinning while you drill it out from the bottom.  After you get it out, you're going to have to figure out how to rivet the replacement back on too.  I use the Riveter for that task too.

I have a 70s Lionel gondola with a coupler that someone previous to me "glued" in the closed postion. It makes the car behind it derail on curves. It has a metal pin that holds the truck to the car body. How do I remove this  pin without destroying the truck or getting frustrated and giving up.
