Thank you for the reply.  I will check out the Brennan's Better Ballast.

I don't understand the reasoning behind the idea that HO scale ballast looks better on O Gauge track.  Three rail tubular track is over scale and HO scale ballast is only going to accentuate that. I guess it depends on what the comparison is based on. Kitty litter, oil dry, and aquarium gravel are far too big. Although this may be seen as self-serving, Brennan's Better Ballast is actually scale sized and looks good with 2-rail  and 3 rail O gauge track.

O27 track and ballast?
Posted by mikeberry on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 8:29 PM

Hi guys/girls,

I am currently making ties for my O27 track.  My question is what do you use for ballast?  There are a zillion different types of ballast.  I have read that using HO ballast looks more realistic on O track.  Any thoughts on this?  I am not asking what colors to use, I am asking what brand and size is preferable for O27 track.  Thanks for any help!
