Lionel 6414 and reproduction automobiles....
Posted by younglionel on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 6:00 PM

Recently acquired an older 6414 and bought the replacement cars marketed by Lionel.  Problem is, they want to roll right off the car.... what is the trick to keeping the cars on the 6414?  Thank you!

I use some 1/4 inch balsa strips painted black attached to the auto carrier with removable rubber cement. The balsa strips glued across the ends of the auto carrier keeps the autos from rolling off and can be removed easily with no damage auto carriers.

Like Bill mentioned, you need to shim the 6414 auto loader racks, as the replacement cars are shorter in length(about an eigth of an inch) then the original cars that came with the 6414 or other auto carriers from the post war era. That was how a serious collector knew that I had bought replacement cars for the 6414, the length is a give-a-way!
