Dont have the kids around as they will add new words to their vocabulary.
Walk around in your bare feet on the carpet, you'll find the spring soon enough!
Don't forget a magnet, as most spring metal is of a ferrous nature.
Unless, the spring gets caught in the nap of a rug, then hands and knees are required!

Suggest you place a piece of thread from your wife's sewing basket through the spring to prevent loss in case an extra thumb gets involved. You can remove the string once the spring is installed.
Sorry for being so slow in replying: nternet server was down and I've been out of town.
The springs I bought are repro springs. One end of the spring is longer than the other. I don't know how this corresponds to earlier or later springs. This is for the plastic door 3472, not the metal door 3462 (I think that's the number of the 1947 version.)
Apparently I'm not the only one who has experienced failure/frustration with this installation. I think a lot of people are waiting with anticipation the technique you share with us! I surely am!

Wabashbud Yes, work slowly with lots of patients and keep the bad language to a minimum and continue trying. Eventually it will fit. Then quit, and take a Big swig of wiskey

Oh, yeah!
Multi colored flooring helps to loose a small part!
Especially, when the spring springs from your grasp!!!!!!!!
I'm of no help, but you need the patience of a Saint, eyes of an eagle and the hands of a surgeon!
GOOD LUCK!
Hmm... I've had no particular issues installing the springs on the milk car, which part is giving you fits? Are you talking about the springs with the long ends, or the earlier one with the little springs in the hinges?
It is very frustrating and I failed. I figured raising the blood pressure wasn't worth it.

Can anyone give me some tips about how to install the spring on the doors of a 3472? I read that it is a frustrating task. Tell me about it! Any suggestions? Please!!! -Lloyd
