I hadn't heard about that one.  But we've had plenty to distract us here in Austin:  fires in every direction around the city, including this:

Bastrop, Texas (CNN) -- Firefighters southeast of Austin, Texas, battled strong winds Monday as they struggled to gain ground against a fast-moving wildfire that has so far scorched some 25,000 acres and destroyed close to 500 homes.

TEHACHAPI, Calif. (Associated Press) --

Officials now say the wildfire burning near Tehachapi in Kern County has destroyed a dozen homes and doubled in size.

Ron Oatman, a spokesman with the California Department of Fire and Forestry Protection, said late Monday that the so-called Canyon Fire had consumed more than 8,600 acres, or about 13 square miles.

Oatman says 12 residences have burned, along with 15 outbuildings and three recreational vehicles.

The fire was sparked Sunday when a single-engine Cessna plane crashed.

Ground crews are working to clear a fire break between the fire and the trailer, ranch and vacation homes in communities south of Tehachapi, a city of 8,000 south of Bakersfield.
