My advice is to call Joe Mania. He is a master.

Looking for Company to restore pre war Lionel trains
Posted by 152ryan on Thursday, September 1, 2011 10:02 AM

I am hoping the forum members could point me in the right direction for restoring my father's pre war lionel trains.  I sent it to one company and they have floundered and nothing has been done in over two months.  I would like to find a company who does good work and can do it in a timely manner.  Any help you all could give would be great.  Here is a list of the contents and a survey by a friend who is a train buff :

390 loco, black/orange stripe - Frame is good, some paint flaking.  No dents.  Surface rust on lead truck.  Rear truck missing.

390T, black/orange stripe - Nice shape.  Easy to repaint.  Needs wheels, but I can supply.

Passenger: 319/320/322 - Played with, but dents or missing parts.  No heavy scratches rust.  Wheels need tumbling.

Freight

218 Caboose red

219 Crane, peacock

512 Gondola, peacock

520 Searchlight, terra cotta

All freights are in G/VG condition with playwear rubbing, but no dents or heavy scratches  The crane boom has been stepped on, but not kinked.  All wheels & couplers need to be tumbled due to surface rust.

IMHO, all are readily restorable.

Thanks in advance guys,

Ryan
