SD90 Heritage paint???
Posted by Deputy on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 9:58 AM

I was searching around on E-Bay for an MTH 20-2770-1 D&RG loco with the heritage paint scheme and noticed that Williams is selling an SD90 with the same paint scheme, Then I saw that the loco has the same road number as the SD70Ace. Another bogus heritage loco I presume. Sad

Williams does not currently have the SD-70 Ace tooling so they are using their SD90 tooling. It keeps their expenses down which allows them to sell a conventional large diesel with the neat UP Heritage paint schemes at a reasonable price. I guess if someone wanted the actual SD-70Ace loco at a reasonable price they could  go with the MTH Railking version.

Actually, the MTH SD70Ace version is the Premier version in scale size, not a RailKing. And good luck finding one. They have pretty much disappeared. I can get a Lionel SD70Ace, but I would be paying for features I can't use.

My point with the Willaims SD90 is it's just another fantasy paint package like the new "Heritage" ones Lionel is bringing out. They have no basis in reality, since there are no SD90 Heritage locos on the UP roster.Smile

I have the MTH Premier UP Heritage locos in the Katy, D&RG, and WP along with the Bush 41, great locomotives. MTH Railking did come out with the UP Heritage locomotives a couple years after the Premier versions, not scale but about $150 less.

Railking is not really what I'm looking for, though. If you check the numbers I listed for MTH in my first post, you will see it is the 3-car set in Premier scale. Most of my rolling stock is scale size, so I try and buy scale wherever possible. And definitely no fantasy paint schemes Big Smile
My best bet is probably the Lionel D&RGW since they are readily available. I just won't be able to use some of the features on them.
