Summertime acquisitions
Posted by Seayakbill on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 12:39 PM

With all of the other  activities and vacations the summer months are not the best time for acquisitions for the railroad. I did stop by the LOTS convention in Omaha last month and picked up a few pieces of rolling stock during our vacation travels.

Anyone else replenishing their layouts with locos or rolling stock for the upcoming winter months ?

I always have my summer projects.  I usually know by mid January what I want to change or add to my Christmas layouts so I try to acquire those pieces by September or October at the latest.  Usually it's "that building I didn't have time to do" or some tinplate that needs refinishing and is "better done in warm weather outdoors".  But sometimes it's about adding new sections or capabilities to my holiday layouts.  Like the year I added S gauge to my Plasticville layout or G scale to my Standard Gauge, that sort of thing.  Thius summer it's been finding 5 tin cars to build my own monorail and adding cars to my James Gang set so it can pull the Santa Fe and Disneyland RR!  Smile, Wink & Grin

For me summertime is when I do most of my work!  It's the winter months when I get to sit back and rest!  Laugh

Figure October York is time enough for the fire sales to hit the toy train hobby. Dinner

Right now too few consumer retailers have gotten the Wall Street memo. Whistling

Williams NYC 60' Madison set Cool. Cars are 14 inches each. Plus new bottle of MTH vanilla scented smoke fluid. I had to buy more after my clumsy self knocked the other bottle down on the concrete floorEmbarrassed
