Prewar AF Clockwork / tinplate valuation
Posted by kehoesj on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 9:26 PM

Any American Flyer Prewar experts out there that can lend assitance?  Neighbor has uncovered the following items which appear in relatively nice condition.  I hope to help her in determining a "ballpark" value.  Cast Clockwork engine with "120" tender, Sandcar 1116, Express Baggage 1200, Passenger, 1201, Tankcar 1118, Automobile car 1112, 1115, caboose 1114, with original track, 4 switches, 45 crossover, short end piece, 8 straights and 8 curves.  No dents, scratches, graphics are good, except caboose paint is flaking.  Would appreciate all honest opinions from those knowledgeable.  E-Bay search has not yeilded much info on these.

A few pics could help determine the value. Any chance you could post them? You also didn't mention if the Loco still runs or not, has this been tested?

Also does the Loco have any markings under the cab window, as in a number? Most Loco's bring in about $50 to $75 depending on Loco number and condition. Most of the cars you mentioned could bring in $25 to $50 depending on condition. The track and crossover and switches alone don't bring too much but can help sell the set.

Some sets like this in good condition with the box have sold $150 to $200. But as stated before alot has to do with condition. Some have tried to get $250 or more with little luck. But some would pay $150 or so.
