I was wondering, like everyone else. When the stock market takes a hit like it has the last few weeks. Is it time to buy American Flyer model trains or sell? Maybe just trade for what you may think is a better investment like O, HO, or N scale....

From what I have seen on E-Bay over the past year, unless the PW item is in pristine condition, the mojoriety of prices are in the dumpster. The economy has been sliding for 3 years, the last few days are just a continuance. It is a buyers market.

Dennis has it right. Fortunately for me, I sold all of my truly collectable trains before the price took a dive and actually made a profit on most of it. However, since then and especially on the modern stuff, I have lost money on every sale. Proto 1 MTH for example seems to bring only about one third the original price and even then not always. Even proto 2 trains don't hold their value either. Now trains are like any other commodity, they depreciate.

unless I see something sneaking by at a ridicules low price I only buy what I want for my use. sometimes I get real lucky and its both at the same time but thats real rare that I find something I want and its sneaking by at a ridicules low price lol.
trains are not for investment for the most part I use to think they were too but that was at least 8 years ago and sometimes I get a lucky one that a few want when I decide to sell but thats rare.
