Hi all, I'm brand new, August 1st, to the CTT Forum/Discussion Boards. I posted the below ysterday and apparently sent it to myself...no wonder I had no replies!!! : )
Appreciate some seasoned feedback on geeting my 2333 to move. It was running fine till I replaced the front roller assembly. Purchased it from Ebay and it looks fine w/black & red wires. 2333 has two motors. When I put it on the track and move it with hand it sets of the KW red light. I also replaced a bad worm drive. Engine ran fine after that replacement put quit after the roller install. I've even turned the roller around so the shoe is on either outside rail...still no power. Did I somehow fry the e-unit? thanks! Glacier Bear
How about a complete repair manual with schematic for your engine?

And here's the dummy unit parts list as well.

Let me see. You replaced the roller assembly, and now the KW is telling you have a dead short between the pickup roller and the frame of the engine. Go back and check the wiring and make sure you didn't pinch the wire when you installed it. Also, where did you connect the pickup roller wire to?

I was hoping the schematic would help him track it down.
John, There is a rule about this sort of stuff. When something was working and you fix it to make it "better", and a problem results, look at the last thing you did. That is almost always where the problem is. It is likely he has a pinched wire or soldered the wire to the wrong terminal. If the KW is grunting, he is likely going to smoke the wire.
There are two very small fiber washers that sit in the large fiber insulator under the collector assembly and one fiber washer under each screwhead. If any one of those is missing, a short will result. Based on my experience, that is the first place I'd check.
hi servoguy. thanks for the help. i checked the schematics and my 2 other f-3's and ran the RED wire to the E-unit and the black i think over to the horn relay. i even tried the balck over to the e-unit...still no power.

thats funny...i did try to 'make it better' and wala....no power. i will retrace my wiring using the greenberg diagram.
Thanks Jim. If you mean the 2 black screws that hold the roller collector to the truck then this may be it as I don't have(or lost) the washers. Sounds like they are not metal but 'fibre' washers....correct?
thanks for diagram. schematic is a big help. looks like thread from Jim may solve the problem as I seem to have lost the 2 ;fibre' washers that go to 2 screws that hold roller connector to the truck. hopefully that's it. your diagram from olsen confirms it.
i'm getting greenberg's tonight!!
BB....not sure if you saw Jim's note. Your rule is correct 'in last thing i did'....what i may have done is loose one or booth 'fibre' washers to the roller collecter assembly. stay tuned!
Sounds like you're on the right track. Shorting the pickups to the frame will certainly cause a short!
fore sure the right track. i believe jim in the discussion here had the 'fibre' idea. before i went to work this morning, of course i couldn't wait, i took the 'fibre' wahsers off of my 2343 and installed them to the 2333 roller assembly. powered up right away. sure glad i joined this group before going off the 'tracks'!
now it's back to those darn post-war horns : )
JI, I checked out your YouTube link; nice Lionel setup. The AF NorthCoast is a nice engine & cars as is the Aerotrain. Thanks for your 'fibre' suggestion on the 2333...i solved it this morning with 2 fibre wahsers from my 2343. Power! Now I have to buy a few sets on ebay or one of the dealers in old parts from OGR Magazine.
GB,
No problem. I've been in that situaution with F3s and NW2 switchers several times.
