Lionel Conventional Classics vs Original Postwar??
Posted by bigvin on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 12:08 PM

I do searches for my NYC freight set 2185w or my F3 number 2344 and Lionel Conventional Classics pop up all over the place.

Has anyone purchased one of these Lionel repro sets?

How is the quality in materials and functionality compared to an original postwar power unit or rolling stock?

One thing I did notice is the repro set comes with a double dome sunoco car....mine is the single dome which I believe is original to a 1950 - 2185w set. Can someone verify this?

CTT Magazine as done a couple of comparison of the post and conventional and has been very favorable of the classic. Yes its not original but it like finding an original in unused condition but yes there are differences if you open up the hood lol

I think many of the classics come with nice stuff like sprung diecast trucks, etc.  Since the "plastic" years, Lionel has started making better stuff lately. :)
