Crooked gear...
Posted by silentman on Sunday, July 24, 2011 10:29 PM

I have a Lionel 8380 diesel with a crooked plastic gear on the front truck between the back and the middle axle. Is there a way to "shim" it straight or any other remedies? I've heard this being somewhat common on the more modern diesels like this one, not sure if im totally accurate about that. Thanks for any help!!!!

AFAIK, there is no "silver bullet" for this issue.  Usually, it's because the plastic shaft has worn.  I have one sitting on my bench with the same issue.  There's no easy way to get into the gear on this one, the side plates are staked on, so fixing it is problematic.

I believe you have the similar design in that locomotive to the one I have here..
