Oil Drum Loader hookup

I have the 1994 version of the Oil Drum loader.  The directions for hookup are different from the reissue in 2004-05.  My version 6-12862 use the lockons and I want to hook it up to the transformer.  My version also has clips 2 & 3 looped together where the reissue doesn't.  Also my instructions don't include clip 1 where the reissue has 1 & 3 being tied together.  So I guess my question is this:  Does anyone have the 1994 version 6-12862 hooked up to the transformer instead of the track?  And if so can you tell me how you installed it? I tried every way possible and nothing... the lights didn't work or anything.
