Help please Lionel 646 Hudson Freight set.
Posted by Nobbie on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 7:46 PM

Hi. My 646 Hudson Style Lionel will not move. There is power in the track. Bells and whistle work. Lights in Caboose work. Smoke in Loco work. Green light in CW80 transformer is on. There was a spark at some point and then it stopped moving. Now it will not go forward not backwards. It just doesn't move. Anyone please help. Thank you.

My guess is that the e-unit in the locomotive is malfunctioning. You may have to take it to a Lionel authorized service station.

I'm assuming this is a conventional locomotive, not TMCC?  What's the actual Lionel product number?  If it's the reverse board, it'll be a ton cheaper to just replace it yourself, taking it in for service will be expensive.

Can you turn the wheels of the loco?  If it has magnetraction and picked up a piece of steel, the gears could be jammed.  I had this happen on a new diesel.

If it's a worm drive, you won't be able to turn the wheels, but you can try rotating the motor and see if that's all free.

Check the on/off switch, make sure the e-unit is on.
