I have a few relays that I have picked up over time. I plan to use them on the layout. They all have sockets that the relay plugs into. They, unfortunately are from different manufacturers. Some indicate the posts as A, B, 1...11, others just numbers. It isn't intuitive to me which post gets the power, ground and which are the output power and output common. Is there a site that has this information. The manufacturer sites seem to assume one knows what to do.
thanks

On most relays there are 2 contacts that energize the coil, turn the relay on - off. Then there are additional contacts that are used as on - off switch for your accessory such as a block signal or a crossing gate. So you need to study the relay and be sure which contacts are to the relay coil, the other contacts are for the control of your accessory, as an on off switch, or to change a block signal from green to red.
See this link for a wiring plan for a block signal --- Toy Train Review - www.toytrainrevue.com/
I have several relays on my layout for block signals and one for a crossing gate. 2 are Radio Shack Relays and 4 of them are Potter + Brumfield. I don't have sockets for them, so I used a wire end connector that you can get at Radio Shack that the tabs on the relay will slide into.
