They both are excellant locomotives and both come with a warranty so if any issues arise it will be corrected. Lionel lists their guy at $850, MTH lists their guy at $430. Obviously for a $420 difference the Lionel locomotive will have additional perks such as a diecast shell. It is up to you to decide if those perks are worth the additional expense.
For me a diecast shell is not that important but 2 motors vs 1 motor is.
What I find interesting is that K-Line use to sell GG-1's with diecast shells for $150 so I don't know why a diecast shell would be the reason for the big bucks.

I just wanted to know advantages and disadvantages on both. I know that the Lionel version is Diecast but has only one engine to compensate for a very detailed Cab. The M T H version however is the same as any Mth premier engines but comes with a set of sidestacks and is very hard to find. The Lionel I was also told that it will also be hard to find soon as Lionel based their production on pre-orders placed. Decisions....decisions.....decisions.
Since the operating system is not a factor get whichever one that YOU feel gets your adrenalin perking.
I do have both.....fortunately
Which operating system do you have, MTH DCS or Lionel TMCC / Legacy ?
Which one should I get. Lionel is $700.00 and MTH is $619.00?
