Mystery (to me) Flyer Train Set
Posted by choochin3 on Thursday, July 29, 2004 10:44 PM
Last year I purchased an American Flyer train set No.100 Advertising from a customer at my work. This was my first piece of Flyer in my collection,so I don't know much about it.I collect mostly Marx & Lionel. The set box has a label on the top from Joe The Motorists Friend store. The set contents are as follows.#307 Steam loco,Headlight no smoke no choo choo,#923 Illinois Central Refrigerator,#941 Frisco gondola,#938 American Flyer Lines caboose. All pieces are in like new condition, and appear to be barely run.The set box is in fairly good shape (no flaps missing). All pieces have operating knuckle couplers. From a little research my guess is that this set was made aroud 1955.Anyone know anything about this set?THANXXX!!!!!

I've got my Greenberg AF price guide here and the values for the pieces in the set in excellent condition are as follows:

307 Reading Atlantic steam loco: $50
923 IC refrigerator car: $25
941 Frisco gondola car: $22
938 AFL caboose: $13

Having the box and everything certainly adds to the value as well. This set definetly isn't rare, but it still is very nice and being a boxed set in excellent condition certainly makes it a good find.
