I suspect you have a "KTM" instead of a "KMT" engine. If so, it's a replica of a two-axle Japanese electric locomotive and was made in the 1960's. Even though the KTM engines were made with scale wheels, I have operated them with success on tubular O-gauge track.

In the Greenberg Guide to Kusan Trains which also covers AMT and KMT electric trains the only reference to a 501 locomotive is a C&O Kusan general purpose switcher which is now in production under numerous roadnames as a RMT Beep. This is a chopped version of a possible GP-7. It is shown on pages 31 and 45 of the Greenberg Guide. It is not a boxcab electric, can you post a picture of your boxcab ?
