KW transformer rectifiers

Adding to Ben's information, you want to specifiy an "anode to case" silicon diode rectifier. A "cathode to case" diode will activate the bell (if present), not the whistle. In his video covering ZW rectifier replacement, Jim Barrett used a 40 Amp, 400W diode. The closest I could find -

I had my kw's rectifier replaced twice , after the thing went out a third time, I decided to pick up the tmcc "starter" set with the remote & command base. problem solved. now i control my conventional trains via remote control & whistles blow w/out a hitch.[^]

The KW's rectifier (1041-13) is copper-oxide, not selenium.

you could just get a real replacement rectifier.

You may want to see OGR Run 198(January 2004), page 121-123 for information on replacing the rectifier with a diode. This article is specifically about the ZW, but the same principles can be easily applied to the KW.

You could also probably go down to Radio Shack and ge the correnct diode. You need a rectifier diode with a rating of 25 amps or more. Anything else will burn up.

I recall, some time ago, seeing an ad for diodes to replace the KW rectifiers.
Can anyone recomend a source for them or a replacement rectifier source?
