thanks especially for the info on the magnet possibility of overheating!!!
thanks, that makes perfect sense!
The K-Line uncoupling track that I am familiar with is a single operation type, gets the power from the outside rail for one half and you must hook the other wire to a switch that gets wired to the hot terminal on the transformer. As with all electromagnets, don't hold the activating button for more than ten seconds at a time or the magnet may burn up if you do.
The K-Line uncoupling track works with most of the common coupling devices used on; K-Line, Lionel, MTH, Atlas and Williams. To work the car must have a piece of metal on the truck assembly that is lowered(the old thumb style or new metal plate). It won't work with most pre-war style(slide shoe) uncouplers, as they need a special uncoupling track to work with.

I don't have a PDF but have a couple in operation on the layout. The single wire from the uncoupler section goes to one side of the operating button. The other side of the operating button is connected to the center rail using a track connector. Seems to work OK for Lionel operating cars with a plunger and uncouplers.

Does anyone out there have a PDF of the K-Line remote control uncoupling track showing its correct wiring to the switch that came with it???
