I think some of the appeal behind the warbonnet is what it stood for as well as it's esthetics. The full size ATSF was determined to run the best passenger trains in America which they did right up to Amtrak day. I never got to ride a Santa Fe train, but I still associate high service with the warbonnet trade mark. Most of Amtrak's cars at start up were ATSF cars because they were so well maintained which attests the thier commitment to quality.

I think there used to be a page here that  had  all the covers  up  to  an  anniversary  issue.   That  would give you  a count  up  to that  point.   I remember  reading in the magazine  that  they  sell  more  copies  when  a warbonnet  is on  the  cover.

As for how many models there were, here's off the top of my head:

Marx 21, 1095

Atlas GP60

Lionel 2333, 2343, 2353,  2383

This could be a fun thread :D

War Bonnets on the cover of CTT

The latest issue of Classic Toy Trains has a nice picture of the familiar Santa Fe War Bonnet on the cover. I know this engine has appeared on more CTT covers than any other engine. My question is just how many covers of CTT has the War Bonnet graced?
