You are lucky.
Some places quickly say how do they know that the customer might have damaged the item and refuse to take it back.
I always ask the proprietor, if I may check the item before paying, if they say no, then I go!

Yep, one large dealer on Long Island replaced 2 items that I had purchased from them that were damaged, no questions asked.
