Lionel Model numbers 1630, 1631, 1689T

I recently received these model passenger cars and coal car from my mother who received it from her father in 1977.  I do not know anything about the time frame of these models or if I can still get the original engine to put with it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

wayne34,

Type in; "Classic Toy Trains."

That is where you will get answers to your questions, for model trains, as this forum is for real trains.

The #1630 "Pullman" and  #1631 "Observation Car" were cataloged in "O-27 Sets" from 1938 to 1941.  They were Blue with Silver roofs and had Manual Couplers. (the16XX were manual couplers, 26XX were remote couplers)

The 1689T is a common "Coffin" type tin tender from that same era.    Larger sets had the "Waffel Top" tin tender or a Die-cast Tender.

Starting in 1938 through to 1941 "O-27 Set"  #1088 (E)  had two #1630 "Pullmans" and one #1631 "Observation" pulled by a dicast #1664 locomotive with a #1689T tender, with track and transformer. List price in 1938 dollars $11.75

In 1941 only another train set was listed in "O-27", set #1174 with one #1630 "Pullman" and one #1631 "Observation" that was pulled by locomotive #1668 and a 1689T tender, with track and transformer.  List in 1941 dollars, $8.75
