I've recently picked up a 6-19825 EMD Generator Car. This is a re-issue of the 3530 EMD Generator Car from the late 50's.
I think a fan driven smoke unit would be an interesting addition to this car. It appears that there might be enough room in the car for a smoke unit. Power is already in place, so all one needs is a switch, the smoke unit, and some creative ducting to get the output from the smoke unit to the exhaust vents.
Has anybody done this?
Anybody have a suggestion for a fan driven smoke unit? There is maybe 1 1/2" by 2" 'foot print' available.
I agree, should not be a difficult project and would be neat to see smoke coming out of a stack, kind of surprised that one of the manufactures have not already done it.
The smoking caboose has been around for decades along with the smoking bunk car and now MTH has the smoking hot sauce tankers and I believe Mega-Steam is coming out with a Mega-Steam smoking tanker.

I think this is a great idea! I was browsing around some of the parts websites. There are a few to choose from...

I like that idea, another good use of a smoke unit would be on the Missle Launch Vehicle. Fire a missle and a blast of smoke is vented from that area.
I have one of the MTH Smoking Coffee Tank Cars and it is really nice, however it would have been better had they installed a pot to adjust the power to the smoke unit. When running it in a DCS/TMCC environment you are almost constantly adding fluid.
