I had a similar problem with an 8147 Atlantic locomotive. I used a little epoxy and it is holding up well. My goof was I didn't get the gear alignment exact with the drive rods and this caused a noticeable lurch and bind problem until I repositioned the teeth to mesh correctly.
I have used CA glue to address loose wheels. It works fine. When I've done this, I've completely removed the wheel, and cleaned both the axle and the hole in the wheel to remove all dirt, grease, oit, etc. then a drop of CA glue in the wheel hole before putting the pieces back together. It's been many years since I tried Krazy glue. I found that I had better results with the brands sold in hobby shops.
Instead of Krazy Glue, try red Loctite, likely to find in the hardware store in a small tube. Specifically made for repairs like this. I've saved a few wheels this way. Not too much. A little dab will do ya.

I usually run this engine on a continuous loop of O tubular with no problems. I put it on a different line with 022 switches and it kept derailing on the turnout (fine on the straight section). While inspecting the the Lionel GP20 dual motor I noticed that one of the geared wheels was loose. It has about 1/4" play left to right. I thought about putting a drop a Krazy Glue on the axel but thought I'd put it out on this forum for some "better" ideas. Any thoughts on how to repair this wheel/axel??
