American Flyer 30B Transformer
Posted by Gdoc on Saturday, April 30, 2011 6:19 PM

Just picked up a 30B dual control transformer at a train show today. Voltages are right on when tested with volt meter. It is quiet when operatingt, both voltage gauages work, Locomotive speed is fine with no dead spots or hesitation. My question is that both controls with the dead man switch engaged and set at zero I am still pickup 3 - 5 volts on the rails. This condition does not allow the reverser unit to operate without disengaging the deadman switch. Is this normal, or does the unit require some maintenance. I picked it for well below $200 with a guarentee that it works properly. Any thoughts? Thanks GV

Yes, it's normal.  That's one reason I stopped using mine.  I couldn't get used to lifting the handle nor to the fact that the two controls moved in opposite directions, even though I liked the looks of the thing.

Your transformer is working as designed.
