The Answer!!! Now here is another dumb question

The answer: WOW!!

After I reversed the wires as Martin suggested to no avail.

Well I thought I would do what bf said and isolate the engine from everything else. So when I hooked it up alone still no horn and the warning light was flashing.Darn!

Well I thought I would flip the warning light switch to see if it would go off now that the engine was isolated, nope did not go off but low and behold the horn worked with the switch fliped.

I hooked up the other track and CTCs and it works fine with the rest of the table and 1122E switches.

I guess the light switch is a horn activation switch not a warning light switch. If so the instructions are wrong or the engine is wired wrong. Think I will leave it like it is, kind of nice to be able to turn off the horn when you have grandkids running the trains. Would be nice to know what is correct.

Thanks again to all of you for helping me work throught this.

Just started looking at the instruction sheets I got with the engine and there seems to be a few.Why I got 2 with it I have no idea but I looked at them and they had the same part # so I figured someone made a mistake and packed 2 instead of 1.The one I was first looking at was 71-8205-250 looking further it is RevA. Seem this one has the warning light switch and was from 1990 Dash 8-40B

Looking at the other one it is from 1992 and is Rev B for the Dash 8-40C. It has the horn switch so that makes sense and my engine is built okay. The link RT sent is from 1994 and is RevD

Lesson learned. READ THE FINE PRINT.

Tks,

Kev.

What I find impressive is you actually READ the instructions! I can't remember the last time I did that... oh yeah - just a few weeks ago with my B&O Legacy E7s! Glad you got is figured out.

BTW - You should REALLY install the TVS that bfskinner recommended. lionelsoni has been recommending them to everyone on the forum and I have yet to install mine. I do want to get that done ASAP though.

Hey RT,

Well it is sort of wierd that the catolog number and box number are not the same.  Catalog # 6-18207 & box # 6-18689. What fun would it be if it was all good and easy.
